Sponsored by Friends of the Roslindale Library, this monthly event has become a gathering place for poets from all walks of life, covering topics as complex and diverse as the artists who share their work. Each featured poet reads for 20 minutes, and the last hour+ of the event is open microphone, inviting members from the local community -- and with Zoom, from a much broader community -- to read one or two of their pieces. This month, one of our featured readers is Lee Varon, writer and Social Worker and recipient of the 2018 Sunshot Press Poetry Prize for "Shot in the Head". She is co-editor of "Spare Change News Poems: An Anthology by Homeless People and Those Touched by Homelessness". She is also the author of two chapboooks: "Affairs Run in the Family" and "Letters to a Pedophile." Featured reader Alan Smith Soto, a native of Costa Rica, is a resident of Jamaica Plain and a member of the Jamaica Pond Poets. He is author of "Fragmentos del Alcancia" (Treasure Jar Fragments), "Libro Del Lago" (Pond Poems) and the forthcoming "Hasta que no Haya Luna" (Until There is No Moon). His translation of Robert Creeley's "Life and Death" (Vida y Muerte) was published in 2000. For the Zoom invitation and/or to sign up for open mic, please email hguran@aol.com
