Take a casual stroll through the Rebecca Nurse Homestead Cemetery as the stone conservators of Epoch Preservation show you some incredible before and after transformations of some of the family headstones. This is the culmination of a two season project to restore the cemetery. The burial ground contains many members of the Nurse and Putnam families to live on the Homestead grounds from the 17th through the early 20th centuries. Resting here are two Revolutionary War soldiers and, according to tradition, two victims of the 1692 Witch Hysteria. They will answer your questions about methods, materials, the philosophy behind their work, and what makes the Rebecca Nurse Homestead Cemetery special from a conservation perspective. Enjoy a history of the cemetery and those interred there by Nurse Homestead docents who can answer your history related questions. This presentation as well as a portion of the funds for the restoration work were paid for by a grant from the Danvers Cultural Council. Donations to help cover the rest of the cost are highly appreciated and can be made to the Danvers Alarm List Company, an independent 501c(3) nonprofit which owns and operates the Rebecca Nurse Homestead.
